QODTuesday, October 20th

Today we were introduced to the unit of Motion in 2 dimensions. We received two handouts

After placing our note cards around the school and measuring our vectors, another group had to find it.
The homework was to find the distance traveled from start point to end point.

Monday, October 26th


Today we started off class with a question of the day. In this question we had to use method 2, the mathematical way, which we learned in class on Friday, in order to find out the magnitude and directoin of the vector. We used pathagrium theorem to find the meters of the hypotinuse and then trig, or SOH CAH TOA to find the degree of the angle.
After the QOD we did a demo where we had to find the weight of a mass using the big ideas from last unit and this unit. These are the notes from the demo.

This demo was the first time we have used forces with vectors. We also got to put last unit and this unit together and see how to use the imformation from both to find out how to slove a problem like this. It was a hard demo, but in the end we all got it and it really helped to see and to understand how forces acting upon an object determine what the mass of the object will be.
Homework is a webassign due Tuesday at 10 PM.

Wednesday, October 28th

Today in class we started with a QOD. After that we were starting the Mu Shoe lab. This lab focuses on how to increase the amount of friction in an object. For the lab we have to attach a spring scale to our shoe and measure the friction (in units of Newtons) that the shoe has on the surface. By doing this we will run trials of dragging our shoes across the table with different masses in them and seeing how the weight affects the friction. We learned that when the velocity of the moving shoe is constant, then the Fthrust and Ffriction are equal. We will be continuing this lab tomorrow in class to further investigate how we can control friction. The homework is to work on the next webassign that is due on Thursday at 8:00am of next week.

Monday, November 2nd

Today in class we got back our quizes that we took the friday before. After that, Mr. Rylander taught us about the two different types of Fricitonal Force, Static and Kenetic.

You would use the Static Friction Formula when you are trying to move an object from rest.
Static Friction Formula is Ff<_Ms(Fn), or put simplier, Frictional Force is less than or equal to Mu multipled by the Normal Force.
Mu- The frictional constant (is different for the Static Friction and the Kentic Friction). (In the formula the S stands for static).

You would use the Kenetic Friction Formula when you are trying to determine the friction of something that is already moving.

After Mr. Ryalnder taught us this he let us go and work on our labs that are due tomorrow.

Tuesday November, 10

Today in class Mr. Rylander did an experiment in the front of the room. He had a fan cart go and he also had it shoot up a ball with air while it was moving. The ball moved in correlation with the fan cart so that it landed perfectly back on the fan cart. This is similar to the concept behind the question of the day we did today. The QOD was about whether a ball shot from a rifle perfectly horizontal or a ball dropped with no applied force at exactly the same time would hit the ground first. To answer this, Mr Rylander had a contraption on the ceiling which "fired" a small ball and dropped another at the same time-they made a ping in unison, thus hitting the ground simultaneously. One student thought that this was susceptible to subjective qualifiers such as how fast the horizontally fired shot was going, how close to the ground the dropped ball was, etc. so we went online http://phet.colorado.edu/simulations/sims.php?sim=Projectile_Motion to see. At this website you can change those variables and in every instance the dropped ball and the fired one hit the ground at exactly the same time .
